Katatonia are confirmed to play Metaltown Indoors, Gothenburg, Sweden on March 12, 2016.

November 11th, 2015

We’d like to thank Tomas ’Plytet’ Åkvik for his time playing with the band as our session live guitarist. Unfortunately due to the extensive plans with the new album cycle it collides with his other commitments, so Tomas last gig with the band will be the 70000 tons of metal cruise in January.

Meanwhile, we’re already looking at a few candidates, but will also accept submissions for the guitar position through our management Northern Music Company. So apply if, and only if, you meet the following criteria:

  • You are 100% into Katatonia’s current sound, but also well aware of the band’s entire history.
  • You have good singing abilities and are able to perform live backing vocals.
  • You are an allround guitar player with good skills to play lead/solo guitar.
  • You have live experience.
  • You are a fast learner.
  • You are between 25-40 years old.
  • You have a considerable head start if you already live in Sweden (ideally Stockholm) and speak swedish.

If you can tick off all the above, then please email: katatonia@northernmusic.co.uk with the subject line ”guitarist submission” and include:

  • Personal description with photos.
  • Musical biography/discography.
  • Links to audio/videos of you playing and performing (do not attach any audio or video in the email, only links are accepted!)

Thank you and good luck!

We’re proud to announce that Daniel ’Mojjo’ Moilanen has officially, as of today, joined Katatonia as our new permanent drummer!

Jonas recalls: ”We first met Mojjo back in 2009 where his band at the time, Engel, had joined us and Paradise Lost on a UK tour and we soon realized we shared the same musical background and ideals. We stayed in touch over the years and when Daniel Liljekvist quit Katatonia in 2014 we decided to give Mojjo a call. He has now been with us for well over a year, so far only as a session live member, but now is the time for him to join the Katatonia album cycle and most importantly – make his own impression on our new material. We can’t wait to see what this will lead to. Love him up!”.

Mojjo adds: “From 1993 via 2009 to 2014, from today and onward into future battles. I am thankful, delighted and proud to take part in the next phase of Katatonia and I am looking forward to the journey being as giving as it has been for the last 22 years.”

Today we also entered Studio Gröndahl with engineer Karl Daniel Lidén to commence the recording of our 10th album. Thanks to Tama drums, Meinl cymbals, Promark drumsticks and Evans drumheads Mojjo has already started doing what he does best, hitting stuff with grace! Stay tuned and follow the progress on our Facebook.

We just learned today that Poland’s Fusion Fest has been cancelled. We’re of course very sorry for our fans who bought tickets to see us and especially for you who made travel plans etc. To refund your tickets go to eventim.pl or email info@eventim.pl for more info.

Statement organizer Fusion Fest 2015 – Agency Zdarta P≥yta Music World

We regret to announce that Fusion Fest 2015 with effect from 02.18.2015 is canceled due to reasons beyond the control of the Organiser and Artists, because of unwanted external company work, operating to the detriment of the festival Fusion Fest 2015 Ergo Arena GdaÒsk/Sopot on 03/20/2015. Due to the good name of the participating teams and partners, we were forced to cancel the event. From the top, we would like you assure you that we will enforce their rights through the courts. Thank you to everyone who supported us in recent days. your support was very important for us.
†Our common decision will change the name of the event and do the event on a new date, and modify line up.
Due to the fact that the Fusion Fest would be badly received, we decided to give this event a new, a fresh tone of the media, so that served the
both organizers and musicians, which at the fusion fest would have at this point is not possible.
We want to realize this concept with you.

Yours faithfully,

Sweden’s Katatonia are set to release their new concert film Sanctitude on 30th March UK & RoW / 31st March USA & Canada / 3rd April Germany.

In September 2013 Kscope released Dethroned & Uncrowned, a reworking of the band’s 2012 epic Dead End Kings (originally released on Kscope’s sister label Peaceville). Dethroned & Uncrowned allowed Katatonia the opportunity to explore a more progressive sound, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the core of the original songs.

Katatonia took Dethroned & Uncrowned on the road in Europe for the first time in May 2014 under the moniker ‘Unplugged & Reworked’. They presented an intimate acoustic evening, performing tracks from the album alongside atmospheric classics from their entire career, stripped and reworked. Each venue, on the tour, was carefully chosen for its unique atmosphere. They were joined on guitar & vocals by The Pineapple Thief frontman and songwriter Bruce Soord.

Sanctitude is a concert film filmed and recorded in the stunning candle-lit setting of London’s Union Chapel. The 80 minute set features 17 songs across the albums The Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness, Brave Murder Day, Last Fair Deal Gone Down and of course, Dead End Kings / Dethroned & Uncrowned, including fan favourite ‘Teargas’. The show closes with the sublime ‘The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here’ and a special guest appearance by Norwegian vocalist Silje Wergeland of Dutch legends The Gathering.

Katatonia’s Anders Nyström comments on the release “As a band we set out on uncharted waters but while apprehensive about the journey ahead our intentions couldn’t have been more genuine to undertake this beautiful experience. Sailing this project into harbour turned out to be bliss and has ultimately enriched all the members of Katatonia.”

All audio on Sanctitude has been mixed & mastered by Bruce Soord. With artwork once more supplied by long-time visual collaborator Travis Smith.
