must say i just saw the video (or what I could take of it) and it's pretty dreadful. Looks like something the teenage fans would identify with. Doesn't make justice to the band's maturity. Also I hope the song choice was the label's choice cause “Day and Then the Shade” is easily one of the few forgettable moments on display.

final note just to say that “Ashen” is quite good, has a verse-heaviness that is missed on the album and it comes across as a bit unexplainable not to include it on the normal ed., since it's, for instance, MIUCH better than the single.

Definitely Nephilim, alot of that being based on the lyrics. Also, 'Day And Then The Shade' gets honorable mention. Fantastic album. Can't wait for another North American Tour. I missed the last show in Denver, sadly. Ugh. Great album!

I voted for Nephilim. Dynamic, Beautiful, Katatonia. close seconds were (in no particular order) Day and Then The Shade, Liberation, Promise of Deceit, and Longest Year. This album is absolutely amazing, and it dominates all music. The thought, emotion, life, and personal anguish that Katatonia have poured into this album shines through in every single track. My Grandmother passed away the day I received my Swedish Pre-Order here in the U.S. and this music has helped me cope, and grasp the weight of our loss. I will forever remember this albums release, its amazing songs, and my Grandmother's passing, in such an epic way that it has changed my life. Thank you Katatonia, you are loved by many.
I love Inheritance. Amazing lyrics and bass/drums. To me it kind of represents the not so distant future of this planets demise and human induced destruction of life on earth. awesome comment on society.

If you've been following Katatonia from their first album you can see clearly the evolution of their music. This time they had a very difficult job ahead of them, to surpass “The Great Cold Distance”, which was their best ever. I believe you people did a great job with “Night is the New Day” since it sounds very different than the last one, but still Katatonia to its marrow. Right now, my favorite is “The Longest Year” but as always, with the passing of time, another song may come up on top. Thanks anyway for sharing your deepest emotions with us.

I couldn't say which song is better. I really love all of the “Night Is The New Day” songs. If I have to choose one maybe that would be “The longest year”.
Anyway, each song of this album has a very specific part that completely enchants me.
I agree that some songs on this album have parts that remind Opeth, but I think this is not bad, as some seem to believe.
From my point of view is even something quite positive, which gives seconds of magic to the songs (maybe this is because I also like Opeth very much).
Preferences will be varied, I'm sure of that, but, as they already know, opinions are changing as we listen to the album again and again (at least, in my case).
Although they would like us to choose one as a favorite, I will say that the whole record seems fantastic to me. I think they have done a wonderful job, and haven't left me indifferent.
So, well done, Katatonia! Still blowing out my mind with the good work, and thank you very much for all of these years of music =)

If there is an album that could stay 3 months continuously in my car stereo with repeated occasional listen that would be “Night Is The Day” (I gave it a constant listening for a week or so) and still it never stops amazed me. Even the less favorite “Nephilim” sounds great now. “The Longest Years” stays on top then “The Idle Blood” is the second-best (it might be the first but then it was “too-Opeth”, not that it was bad but I chose what might appear to be “more-Katatonia”)
Ashen needs to be on that list!!! That song rocks

The album sounds like a single entity. Anyway – Departer, Inheritance, The Longest Year and Promise of Deceit are the most touching.
