    Dear Katatonia,

Throughout the years, since the very beginning your consecutive releases have been substantial part of my life's rhytm. Let me share my observations which might have appeared obvious to you, probably, much earlier.

Your albums are set in periods that consist of 3 main releases:

First era with "Dance...", "For Funerals..." and "Brave..." - very dynamic growth (one can say, high testosterone level is one of the most important biological factors for creation - I wonder what was God's divine testosterone level just before an act of Creation :), all these albums are masterpieces.

Second era with "Discouraged...", "Tonight's..." and "Last..." - total shift to new emotional realms of expression, more consistent, splendid :) Best is "Discouraged" I'd say.

Third era: "Viva...", "The Great..." and finally "Night..." - more dark, heavy, but still rocky :) Viva is the best. "Night..." - judging from the samples and "Forsaker" - seems to me as a good piece of music - HOWEVER - it seems, too, as a continuation of "The Great".

Conclusion - I am looking ahead, even before "Night..." release - and I wonder if this should be your last album in this style, attitude, approach, as it seems there is just a little more to say within these sounds and words.

I wonder what would be your next album - after "Night..." - I would expect something that amaze me the way the very first 3 albums amazed me one after another. I am aware that me as a listener and you as musicians are getting older and some feelings of sentiment may impact my judgement regarding past music from middle '90 BUT - I feel that you need to change something - or to avoid artificial change - seek and search for the inner change inside of you...

    Best for you,

    Miko/Aniroe from Poland, Warsaw.

    PS: So there we have 3 eras x 3 = 9.

As a researcher of religions I would like to point out that starting this Autumn we have entered year 5770 according to the last ancient solar-lunar calendar that is still used by living ethnic group (i.e. Hebrews, or Jews if you like). Interesting is the fact that in Hebrew each number one can read as a word and vice versa each word can be counted. In this instance number 5770 consists of letters He, Taw, Shin, Ain which creates a word that has meaning HaTeShA, which is "The Nine" or can be interpreted as "The Ninth" (it does not happen often - for example last time it happened was in 5765 when number-word had meaning (Ha)TeShaNe - "You will change" or "Will you change?")

Conclusion - PERFECT TIMING GUYS with your Ninth main release :)

I wonder if film producers of "District 9" and "9" also use Hebrew calendar :)

  • Hi guys, saw you in Lund last week! It was awesome seeing you live, although there seemed to have been some sound issues? Can you tell me what was the 3rd song you played at that concert? Anyway i want to congratulate you on your new album, it sounds great and i just pre-ordered it! Awesome art as well. Websites are very nice and i loved the video where you talk about your influences. Please come back soon to Lund or any other city in Skåne! Kram! <3
  • why did you choose Trebuchet as typeface?! that´s such a cute font, while you guys and your music aren´t cute at all ...

    anyway, have fun! :)
  • jhaff
Because I think it's sharp and clean and don't regard it as "cute." I'm also sick to death of Verdana.

Finally, a new website version! :)
The samples sound interesting, very different, indeed.
I'm dying 'til monday, god damn it ^^. Gotta keep myself alive with the old amazing stuff like Inside The Fall right now.
Great that the vinyl version is available right from the start, too, it's gonna look amazing with the big cover.

Thank you for creating the most haunting, atmospheric and emotional music i've ever heard in my life.
    Best wishes from Switzerland!

  • Hey Guys, I can't wait to receive your new record. I pre-ordered it long time ago and I am very excited how your new stuff will sound like! I know that there are some samples already published on this site and I already heard them, but I actually want to have a clear picture about the whole record. Anyway, it will definitively be a masterpiece. The expectations are high, and I am sure that "Night Is The New Day" will exceed them.
My very Best Regards from Germany! Cheers
  • Looking good guys! Can't wait 'til the CD arrives! Although with the postal strike over here in the UK, i'm not sure when it's going to....
